Why Should You Roast Your Coffee Beans?
Have you ever wondered why some coffee enthusiasts decide to roast their own coffee? If you haven't tried coffee roasting, then the idea may really be confusing. You might even think that it is impractical to roast beans given that you can easily go and buy packed roasted beans with no trouble. So why should you roast your coffee beans?
One reason why people choose to do coffee roasting is because it is one of the best ways to ensure the freshness of the coffee. Buying pre-packed roasted beans won't provide you with the taste of freshness that could only be attained from newly roasted coffee. Beans are best utilized between 18 hours and about one week and a half after the roasting process. When beans like these are used, you will surely get a high-quality coffee experience!
Roasting coffee yourself is also practical for storage reasons. The general rule will tell you that raw or green coffee beans can last up to a year or more and still be appropriate for consumption. Roasted coffee beans, on the other hand, may approximately be fresh up to two weeks only. Ground coffee beans will last for a relatively shorter amount of time.
So this sums up the importance of roasting the coffee yourself. Having a stable supply of green coffee beans will let you control the amount of coffee that will be used. If your household does not consume a lot of coffee on a daily basis, then you can choose to roast only a small amount and just store the rest.
